Though we're fans of a cocktail all year round, there's no denying their sweet, refreshing flavours really come into their own in summer. And, from the savoury tang of a Bloody Mary to the sweet tartness of a Cosmopolitan, there are few other drinks which come in so many shapes and sizes. After all, there are endless ways to blend your favourite spirits, liqueurs, mixers and garnishes to create a custom cocktail. It's that variety which makes them so suited to hosting, whether it's whipping up a fruity, fizzy number for a barbecue with friends, or a punchy margarita for a dinner party packed with Mexican flavours.

It's something Nix & Kix knows well. Their natural, low-calorie and vegan soft drinks come in refreshingly different flavours (including everything from Raspberry Rhubarb to Cucumber Mint), using botanicals which are picked for both their taste and health credentials. Each has a hint of cayenne, giving the drinks a zing and us a boost of endorphins thanks to the capsaicin it contains. Here, we've given Nix & Kix's drinks a starring role in our collection of delicious cocktails which are perfect for summer.

Watermelon cooler

Though we're sure Cosmopolitan fans will make a beeline for this watermelon cooler, it's definitely a crowd-pleaser and perfect for sipping in the garden on a hot summer afternoon. A long summer punch, topped up with Nix & Kix Sparkling Watermelon Hibiscus, it's incredibly refreshing. The watermelon wedge garnish adds a gorgeous finishing touch, making sure it has the wow factor for your guests.

Mango rum punch

This lightly sparkling pitcher drink is inspired by the classic rum punches of the Caribbean, which are packed with tropical flavour. This version, using Nix & Kix Sparkling Mango Ginger, walks a beautiful balance of fruity with a hint of spice. It'll go down a storm at your next barbecue.

Rhubarb gin fizz

Fans of a fruity cocktail will love this gin fizz, which has a blushing pink look and a super refreshing flavour. It's made with Nix & Kix Sparkling Raspberry Rhubarb, and while many gin fizz recipes use egg white for the frothy topping, this version is vegan. We think it's a fantastic tipple for a summer dinner party.

Blood orange margarita

Margaritas are said to hit all the five main tasting notes – sweet, sour, salty, bitter and umami. This long version also has a spicy kick, thanks to the Nix & Kix Sparkling Blood Orange Turmeric, and delivers all the balanced flavour and freshness we know and love. If you're after the salty kick, rub each glass rim with a lime wedge and dip it in flaky salt. Cheers!
