Whether you’re hosting a Bonfire Night party, Christmas party or just want something to curl your fingers round on a night in on the sofa, we’ve got you covered. This guide has everything you could need: simple mulled cider and complex craft cocktails, kid-friendly hot chocolate and decidedly grown up honey vodka. With these drinks in hand, the night won’t feel cold for long.

The history and origins of cider

Winter warmers

It wouldn’t be a list of winter drinks without mulled wine, but we can also highly recommend a sip of mulled cider, especially Sally Abé’s straightforward recipe.

Sally Abé shares her recipe for a delicious hot mulled cider, perfect for warming the cockles this Christmas.

Christmassy cocktails

If you’re after something a little bit stronger for the festive season, we have a whole host of different Christmassy cocktails. Marcus Wareing’s delightful mince pie Manhattan infuses bourbon in mincemeat for a sweet and fruity twist. For something a bit lighter try our whisky and ginger cocktail – highly sippable and easy to make for a crowd.

And, did you know it’s very easy to make Irish liqueur at home? Give our dairy-free version a go – it’s great for bringing to parties, or adding to your coffee at home.

Heavenly hot chocolate

Hot chocolate, after mulled wine, is maybe the most famous winter drink. And for good reason! Who doesn't love a warm mug of hot chocolate? It’s so much better when made from scratch, and Jennifer Earle’s version, made with copious amounts of dark chocolate, will have you swearing off supermarket hot chocolate powders for life.

And, for that extra GBC twist, we also have recipes for homemade marshmallows, ginger snaps and cookies to dip into or serve alongside your hot chocolate. The only danger with serving guests hot chocolate and biscuits this good is they’ll want to come over every day!

Decadent dunkers

The deeply savoury, umami-rich flavour of miso works incredibly well in sweet dishes (along the same lines as salted caramel) – something this marshmallow recipe proves effortlessly. The sugary, pillowy marshmallow is tempered by the inclusion of red miso, which is slightly stronger than white miso. A fun, tasty and interesting way to finish a meal.
