With the culinary behemoth that is London slap bang in the middle of the south east people often forget that the surrounding counties hold more than their fair share of Michelin stars too. With the agricultural might of the home counties there is no shortage of high quality, fresh produce in the region, with the chefs who cooking in the area making expert use of these resources.

This collection features some of the best places to eat in the south east. This includes some of the country's most esteemed restaurants – indeed, Oxfordshire's Le Manoir au Quat'Saisons has been a successful training ground many chefs who now hold Michelin stars of their own. For altogether heartier fare The Beehive in White Waltham offers premium gastropub fare still served with a lightness of touch one would expect from one of Heston Blumenthal's former head chefs. For one of the best restaurants in Kent try Chapter One, an establishment with a true field-to-fork ethos.
