It’s no easy task running a restaurant in a country house hotel. Of course you’ll always have hotel guests coming in to sample the food, but you need to be doing something special to entice people in who aren’t also staying the night. When he took over as executive chef in 2016, it was Adam Smith’s aim to make the food at Berkshire’s Coworth Park the main attraction. Now with a Michelin star to its name, people come from far and wide to try the restaurant’s refined, classical menu.

The acclaimed Restaurant Coworth Park sits at the heart of the hotel staring out over acres of impressive gardens and showcases Smith’s signature style of modern yet classically grounded food inspired by fantastic British produce, some of which comes from the hotel’s own grounds. An impressive chandelier made from oak leaves hangs above diners setting a tone of elegance, while large mirrors cover the walls adding to the dining room’s feeling of spaciousness.

Depending on the time of day, diners at Restaurant Coworth Park will eat from either a three or four-course menu, with a variety of different dishes to choose from. Classic flavour combinations are given a new lease of life in seasonal dishes such as duck liver and truffle with a Parker house roll or Cornish turbot with stuffed mussels, cauliflower mushrooms and salted grapes, while desserts might include caramelised puff pastry with pineapple, lime and Chantilly cream.

Restaurant Coworth Park is by no means the hotel’s only restaurant though. Smith also oversees the menu at The Barn, a more casual brasserie-style restaurant, as well The Drawing Room where guests can enjoy a lighter meal or a luxurious afternoon tea. But no matter where you eat at Coworth Park, the ethos of celebrating seasonal British produce is always the same.

At Coworth Park, Adam has successfully managed to create a food offering that matches up to the beautiful surroundings, but most impressively of all he’s turned the restaurant into somewhere which excels in its own right.
