by Great British Chefs1 January 2024

Taking a break from drinking in January, or tend to steer clear anyway? We've rounded up five cocktails which are either non-alcoholic or can easily be made so with a few simple tweaks – we'll be elevating them with a pour of Nozeco's alcohol-free bubbles.

The festive season is usually a time of overindulgence, whether it's a case of a few too many mince pies or overdoing it on the booze; by the time January rolls around, we're usually in the mood for some let-up. And while that might mean keeping a closer eye on the pennies or getting our five a day, for plenty of people it's a case of cutting back on alcohol, or ditching it altogether for Dry January. But from the gloomy weather to the post-Christmas comedown, we know the first month of the year can also feel like the bleakest, and there's a balance to be struck between healthy choices and those little pick-me-ups we look forward to.

If you're looking for an easy way to make your favourite cocktail non-alcoholic without compromising on flavour, try using Nozeco instead of fizz; it's an alcohol-free sparkling drink with all the white grape flavours we love in traditional versions. With that in mind, we've curated a list of five cocktails perfect for January which won't feel like a compromise – ideal whether you're cutting alcohol out entirely or just looking to drink more mindfully. All are either already or can easily be made alcohol-free with a few swaps.

Elderberry Kir Royale

This delicious elderberry cocktail is incredibly simple to make but guaranteed to impress. Inspired by the classic French cocktail, which uses crème de cassis, this Kir Royale has just two ingredients; elderberry cordial and fizz. Once you've made the cordial you'll be ready to go in seconds – simply pour some of the cordial in the glass and top it up with your Nozeco alcohol-free bubbles.

Peach bellini

In this recipe, Valeria Necchio rethinks the classic peach Bellini, using white peaches as a base. Another recipe with just a handful of ingredients (just swap out the fizz for Nozeco's alcohol-free version to make it a mocktail), it's incredibly speedy to whip up for a crowd and will impress whether you've got an occasion to celebrate or just fancy adding some pizzazz to a weeknight.

Rose water, apple and rhubarb mocktail

This pretty-as-a-picture mocktail by Georgina Fuggle is already an elegant alcohol-free option, with the rhubarb in the juice creating a slightly sour backdrop to the floral notes of rose and sweet apple. Replace the soda water with Nozeco to pack it with even more flavour (and, if you're running low on time, sprinkle dried rose petals on top to garnish).

Non-alcoholic aperitivo spritz

This non-alcoholic aperitivo Spritz from Lee Westcott is the perfect pick-me-up if the festive season has left you feeling flat – the alcohol is cooked off in the first stage, so you're left with the flavour of aperitivo but none of the spirit. Though it's already delicious, using Nozeco instead of rhubarb soda brings you even closer to the original.

Barbecued pineapple mojito royale

This cocktail uses barbecued fruit as a base to add chargrilled flavour to the finished drink, which is based around the flavours of a classic mojito royale (if you can't face digging the barbecue out in the depths of winter, recreate the same effect with the grill). To make it Dry January appropriate pick up an alcohol-free rum and switch the bubbles for Nozeco.
