5.00

Crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside, these savoury cheddar and chive waffles make a great brunch dish. Serve with lashings of butter and some ham (or a fried egg if you want to keep it vegetarian).

To serve

  • butter
  • ham, or a fried egg, to top the waffles

Equipment

  • Waffle iron

Method

1
Place the dry ingredients into a bowl and stir to combine, reserving a pinch of chives to garnish
2
Beat the eggs in a separate bowl and add the milk and melted butter. Season with salt and pepper, then slowly whisk into the dry ingredients until you have a nice smooth batter
3
Turn on the waffle iron and wait until it has reached maximum temperature before ladling in the batter. Close the lid and cook until crispy and golden – how long this takes will depend on your waffle iron, but should be around 5 minutes
4
Serve hot with a sprinkling of chives, lashings of butter and ham, a fried egg or extra cheese
