The island of Ireland

The island of Ireland

From the jagged coastlines of the Wild Atlantic Way and the world-class produce of Cork, right through to Belfast’s incredible restaurant scene, there's never been a better time to eat your way around Ireland.

The island of Ireland is home to some of the best food and drink in the world. Its seafood is second to none; the passion of its farmers, growers and producers is unparalleled; its restaurants are truly trailblazing and at the forefront of fine dining.

We went on a trip of a lifetime to three of the island's culinary hotspots with chefs Robin Gill and Richard Bainbridge to see what delights Ireland has to offer. Kicking things off in Galway and Clare along the Wild Atlantic Way, we travelled cross-country to the beautiful lush countryside of Cork, before trading breathtaking landscapes for the trendsetting buzz of Belfast.

Blown away by what we saw, our chef duo created some beautiful recipes inspired by the trip while we put together the ultimate tick-list of things to eat, drink and do in each location. Read on to see exactly why Ireland is a must-visit for anyone who loves good food.

Galway

The Wild Atlantic Way is a breathtaking part of the world, snaking along Ireland's west coast and home to some of the best seafood you'll ever eat. Oysters are a real highlight, as are the pubs of Galway City, the rugged beauty of Connemara and the beautiful coastal views around Doolin in Clare. Take a look at the region's highlights and get planning your own trip of a lifetime.

Cork

Farm-to-fork is often proudly proclaimed by restaurants looking to stand out from the crowd; in Cork, it's simply a way of life. The county's raw ingredients – the dairy, the meat, the fruit and veg – are second to none, and the people producing them are brimming with passion. Here's how to experience it all.

Belfast

Belfast is a buzzy, vibrant, exciting place to be – and its food scene is absolutely thriving. A new generation of chefs are opening their own, ground-breaking restaurants across the city; artisanal food shops keep home cooks stocked up with the best the island has to offer and heaps of international influences are shaping a distinctive 'Belfast' style of cooking. Here's where to head to experience it for yourself.
