Like bacon and eggs, Champagne and celebrations or ice cream and flip flops, food and travel go hand-in-hand. Experiences such as finding the freshest pasta on the cobbled streets of Rome, discovering a new vintage in a French vineyard or buying exotic spices in a buzzing Middle Eastern market often shape our holiday memories. Whether shared with loved ones or newfound friends, a taste or smell can often capture a moment and place better than any photo. This heady combination can also drive us to explore new places and destinations – enticed as much by a national cuisine as by the cities, scenery or culture.

With this in mind, Great British Chefs has teamed up with Celebrity Cruises to create a series of exciting guides to some of the world’s most popular destinations, giving a culinary twist to any holiday itinerary. With tips from locals, stunning photography and beautifully crafted films, destinations such as Provence, Rome, Oslo, Ibiza and the sunny climes of Barbados will be brought to life. Discover how important a role perfume plays in the history of the French Riviera, or how a new wave of creative street art is adding to Rome’s ancient architectural landscape.

Recipes from each destination help these memories live on long after the holiday is over, or can entice with a hint of what’s on offer. To capture the scent of the lavender fields in southern France, pastry chef Graham Hornigold crafts vibrant purple macarons, filled with a creamy ganache and infused with honey and lavender. In honour of the artichoke, a staple throughout the Italian region of Lazio in spring, food writer Rosana McPhee recreates the traditional Roman dish of Carciofi alla Giudea – crisp, fried artichokes, flavoured simply with lemon and oil.

So pack a suitcase, grab your passport, and get ready to explore...
