Scran & Scallie is a charming gastropub situated in the trendy village of Stockbridge, Edinburgh and the latest project from Tom Kitchin and Dominic Jack. With two of Scotland’s finest chefs behind it, along with the talents of head chef James Chapman, Scran & Scallie has a serious culinary pedigree.

Tom and Dominic have a long working history, first meeting in their teens whilst training at the Gleneagles Hotel. After traveling the world and working in some of the finest Michelin-starred restaurants, they were reunited in 2008 when Dominic joined the team at The Kitchin – Tom’s critically acclaimed Edinburgh restaurant. In 2010 the chefs launched a sister restaurant, Castle Terrace, with Dominic as chef-proprietor. With the opening of Scran & Scallie in 2013, the chefs have gone back to basics with a menu of comforting, traditional recipes and forgotten classics.

The duo’s success can in part be attributed to their shared philosophy – their ‘from nature to plate’ ethos is at the core of Scran & Scallie and emphasises seasonal ingredients served as fresh as possible . Like any good local, the pub is open seven days a week and serves food all day, starting with its excellent breakfast menu at 8:30am. At lunch and dinner visitors can enjoy a pint and classic pub dishes such as fish and chips, sausage and mash and burgers. For a more refined dining experience there are plenty of options, with skillfully crafted dishes such as shellfish ravioli with beurre blanc and Jerusalem artichoke and pearl barley risotto.

When it comes to drinks, Scran & Scallie stays true to its pub roots with an impressive range of Scottish ales. These can be enjoyed by themselves or as part of one of Scran & Scallie’s curated beer flights. The pub has a rustic, homey interior, featuring reclaimed furniture, exposed brick walls and tartan fabrics. There is also a subtle Scandinavian influence; a theme also present at Tom Kitchin’s restaurant. Visitors are equally welcome to relax with a pint beside the fireplace as they are to sample a three-course menu. The friendly, casual ambience is thanks to an excellent front of house team who are attentive but unobtrusive.
