Even though the vast majority of Indian takeaways on the high street are actually owned by Bangladeshis, the country's cuisine is still relatively unknown in the UK. But with more and more of us after authentic, regional flavours instead of the generic, Anglo-Indian dishes that came to represent the food from this part of the world, Bangladeshi food is starting to be understood and appreciated for what it is.
Our collection of Bangladeshi recipes are the perfect starting point if you want to discover more about this incredible cuisine. Beef shatkora – an aromatic curry featuring a sour lime-like fruit – is all that's needed to convert you to this cuisine. The Lamb chop bhuna and Doi murgi are fantastic, simple dishes which put meat centre-stage, while the effortless Mug dhal bhuna and Sheem bhaji make wonderful side dishes. For something to snack on, you can't get more satisfying than Beguni aubergine fritters, and to finish everything off try making this delightful Coconut cake, sweetened with date molasses.
