The seeds of a chilli pack the hottest punch, so removing them is a great way to reduce the fieriness. This video from Great British Chefs demonstrates how to de-seed a chilli.

When de-seeding a chilli it is best to wear gloves, but if not remember to avoid touching eyes or body parts until your hands are thoroughly washed. If you add too much chilli to a dish, serve with something cooling like yoghurt, milk or crème fraîche.
Cut the stem off the chilli
Slice the chilli in half lengthways
Use a teaspoon the remove the seeds and pith
Place the chilli skin-side down and cut into thin strips
