Cheats Banoffee Pie

Sometimes we want a sumptuous home made dessert but don’t have a huge amount of time to put it together. Jac found the answer with a recipe card for a cheat’s version of a popular dessert which only took 10 minutes to put together.



Marks and Spencer have a new range called Cook With M&S. It’s a bit of a cheats range. You start with a recipe card (everything on the cards is available in-store), then pick up all the bits and pieces you need. Some of the ingredients are fresh produce and some are shortcuts in the form of jars.

They have recipe cards for:

  • Perfect Paella
  • Banoffee Pie
  • Tomato, Aubergine and Mozzarella Bake
  • Posh Peppercorn Cottage Pie
  • Sumptuous Sausage Tray Bake

They aren’t all veggie, but you could make the paella veggie by using quorn or tofu instead of the chicken and prawns, use soya mince in the cottage pie and veggie sausages in the tray bake. It’s all looking very promising for those late night dinners after a long day at work.

The banoffee pie was to die for! So indulgent, yet so quick to make.

You can whip it up in 10 minutes. It’s a great standby dessert for dinner parties.

The recipe card recommended serving the pie with Toffee and Pecan Cream wine, which is on the same lines as Baileys Irish Cream, but you are left with a lovely nutty flavour. It has quite a kick and goes well with the banoffee pie and is a wonderful late night tipple, served with lots of ice.

Banoffee Pie


Serves 10


1 large sweet pastry case

1 jar of salted caramel sauce

2 bananas

1 tub of mascarpone

1 tbsp milk

1 dessert spoon of icing sugar

100g milk chocolate



  1. Spoon the salted caramel into a mixing bowl, chop in the bananas and mix.
  2. Pour the mixture into the pastry case
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk the mascarpone with the milk and icing sugar and spread on top of the banana mixture.
  4. Grate or finely chop the chocolate over the pie, then serve.
  5. Enjoy!


  • You can substitute the pastry case with a crushed biscuit base
  • You can use whipping cream instead of mascarpone
  • Add a slosh of the Toffee and Pecan Cream for an extra kick
