The Great British Chefs Cookbook Club: May 2024

Welcome to the Great British Chefs Cookbook Club! Find out how it works, how to get involved and what prizes you can win.

Even with the vast number of recipes available on the internet these days, there’s nothing quite like leafing through a beautiful book full of recipes. It’s a medium that’s stronger than ever before, with cookbooks topping bestseller charts throughout the year. If you’re anything like us then you’ll have shelves upon shelves of them in your home – some kept in pristine condition, others earmarked, stained and scrawled over after years of use.

It’s this national love for cookbooks that has prompted us to start our very own cookbook club. Each month we’ll select a cookbook that we think stands out from the rest and ask you, the Great British Chefs community, to cook a recipe from it. We’ll publish a small selection of recipes on our site so, even if you don’t already have the book, you can still get involved and see how your cooking compares to everyone else’s. Apply to join the Facebook group here and take a look at this month's book (and recipes) below. We've also included the winning post from last month's book, as well as some of our other favourite entries.

This month's cookbook is Seasoning by Angela Clutton

For May, we're cooking from Seasoning by Angela Clutton. It's all about seasonal eating, minimising waste and making the most of ingredients while they're at their peak. Take a look at some of the book's recipes below for a taster of everything Seasoning has to offer, or buy yourself a copy here.

Cucumber, elderflower and gin ice lollies

Asparagus, hot-smoked trout and pea shoot tart

Smacked radishes with sesame, sumac and mint

Last month's winners

In April, you all cooked dishes from A Whisper of Cardamom and we were really impressed with the results. A massive congratulations to our cookbook club winner Marta Biriș. They win a prize. Take a look at Marta's entry below, as well as those from our runners up.

Our winner this month is Marta Biriș with this beautiful, floral photo of Eleanor Ford's lightest pistachio biscuits and her cardamom-infused cake.
Anne Hudson made these garam masala chocolate chunk cookies – we're really glad you liked their sweet and savoury flavour
Julie Singer made the lightest pistachio biscuits and lime leaf possets – beautifully garnished and it sounds like the perfect spring dessert
This cardamom, marzipan and cherry bundt from Debbie Quinn looks absolutely stunning, and we love that it worked well in a mini tin
Yvonne Harris made these smoky chilli brownies on a barbecue – they sound so delicious and we love the idea of individual pans of brownies
This milk chocolate tart with nutmeg pastry from Mike Jones looks so decadent, and we love the idea of baking pastry on a Welsh iron bake-stone for a crisper crust
These miniature bundts from Susannah Day are so cute, and the pink icing looks absolutely gorgeous on top – the palmiers are also picture perfect!
Tracy Carey's liquorice meringue kisses look so beautiful – we love how these are formed into intricate little twists with the delicate black stripe. So lovely!
Sarah Sansum made this beautiful 'chocolate mousse for lovers'. We love the presentation in these gorgeous glasses, and this month's favourite, Eleanor's gorgeous pistachio biscuits

Make sure you post photos along with commentary of the dishes you cook this month in our Facebook group to be in with the chance of winning.
