Steak Sandwich Recipe with Green Goddess Dressing

Steak sandwich

  • 4 sirloin steaks, approx. 250g each (preferably organic)
  • 1 baguette
  • 1 handful of fresh rocket leaves

Green goddess mayo

  • 6 anchovy fillets
  • 1 bunch of fresh basil
  • 1 bunch of chives
  • 2 spring onions
  • 1 avocado, peeled and stoned
  • 1 garlic clove, peeled
  • 1 tbsp of white wine vinegar
  • 3 tbsp of mayonnaise
  • salt
  • freshly ground black pepper


Preheat a barbecue ready for grilling
Once the barbecue is hot, cook the sirloin steaks for 1–2 minutes on each side (for medium-rare), flipping frequently to build up a nice, charred crust
Set the steaks aside to rest for 5 minutes while making the green goddess mayo
Place all the ingredients, except the mayonnaise, in a blender. Blitz together until smooth – you may need to add a splash of water to help get things moving. Decant to a bowl and stir in the mayonnaise, seasoning with a little salt and pepper as needed
To assemble the sandwiches, slice the cooked steaks into fingers. Cut the baguette in half then layer up with the green goddess mayo, steak slices and rocket leaves before cutting into sandwiches
