Pear crumble

Try out this simple spiced pear crumble recipe for a quick and comforting winter dessert. The crumble topping is lightly spiced with warming flavours of juniper, cinnamon and ginger which go beautifully with the pears. You can prepare the filling and topping separately in advance if you're short on time.

Ingredients

Pear filling

  • 6 pears, peeled and cored
  • 120g of soft brown sugar
  • 1/2 lemon, juiced

Crumble

Method

Preheat the oven to 180C°/gas mark 4

Roughly chop the pears and add to a pan with the sugar and lemon juice. Place over a medium–low heat and let cook for 5–10 minutes or until the sugar has dissolved and the pear is just starting to soften

In the meantime, make the crumble. Add all the ingredients to a food processor and blend to a rubble

Transfer the pears along with their juices to an overproof dish and sprinkle the crumble in an even layer over the top

Bake for 30 minutes or until the crumble is nice and golden. Serve up warm with a side of custard or cream
