Ingredients

Kansas City baked beans

  • 800g of haricot beans, (2 tins), drained
  • 1 knob of butter
  • 1 onion, finely diced
  • 6 rashers of smoked streaky bacon
  • 1 garlic clove, minced
  • 150g of ketchup
  • 40g of black treacle
  • 50g of dark brown sugar
  • 1 tbsp of apple cider vinegar
  • 1 tbsp of Worcestershire sauce
  • salt
  • cracked black pepper

Method

Add a knob of butter to a pan over a medium heat and sweat the onions until soft but not coloured

Add the bacon and garlic and fry until the bacon starts to colour

Next add the drained beans, along with the rest of the ingredients, and stir. Bring to a simmer and cook for 10–15 minutes

Serve warm with an array of barbecued meats
