Twenty amazing restaurants for Valentine’s Day

Twenty amazing restaurants for Valentine’s Day

by Great British Chefs 25 January 2016

Whether it’s oysters and Champagne in London, seafood and scenery on Jersey or cocktails and spas in the countryside, we’ve rounded up our top menus, offers and restaurants for Valentine’s Day this year.

Great British Chefs is a team of passionate food lovers dedicated to bringing you the latest food stories, news and reviews.

We’re not usually ones to argue with the Bard, but in the case of music being the food of love we have to disagree. Here at Great British Chefs we firmly believe that food is most definitely the food of love, so we’ve rounded up our top picks for indulging both hearts and stomachs this Valentine’s.

Restaurants to impress...

L’Atelier de Joel Robuchon

When it comes to romance, the French tend to know what they’re doing, so what better way to pull out all the stops than with the height of French cuisine at L’Atelier, which is offering a special seven-course Menu Saint Valentin for £195 (with paired wines from £260) on Saturday 13th, and a five-course version on Sunday 14th.

Hibiscus

With two Michelin stars, Claude Bosi’s Saint Valentine's tasting menu at Hibiscus is bound to impress, with six-courses for £190 and an accompanying wine flight for £100.

Galvin La Chapelle

Another classic French option, La Chapelle is already a very romantic venue, but for Valentine’s Day Jeff Galvin has designed a three-course menu for £95, including both canapés and handmade chocolates.

The Square

Phil Howard’s Valentine’s dinner menu champions produce from this side of the Channel, with a £150 tasting menu (£250 with matching wines) including ingredients such as Scottish langoustines and Cumbrian beef.

Alyn Williams at The Westbury

Alyn Williams proves you don’t need meat to be romantic, including a full vegetarian tasting menu as an option this Valentine’s Day – both the meat and meat-free menus feature nine-courses for £95.

For something a little different...

The Dairy

For the most trendy British food at the moment, Robin Gill’s cooking at The Dairy is hard to beat. Any menu that includes the phrase ‘pimp it with truffles’ is sure to be a winner with any date, especially at £65pp.

The Cinnamon Club

Curries and kebabs for Valentine’s Day? Definitely. Adding a bit of spice to Valentine’s this year, Vivek Singh’s newly revamped Cinnamon Club is offering a £95 five-course set menu which includes both, alongside ‘A Fool in Love’ cocktails and live entertainment.

Hartnett, Holder & Co. at Limewood

Taking a more continental route to the heart, albeit via the beautiful countryside of the New Forest, HH&Co are offering an ‘authentic’ Italian Valentine’s this year with a £65 four-course menu including dishes such as agnolotti with polenta and truffle.

Galvin HOP

If fine food rather than fine dining is what sets your heart aflutter, then the Galvin’s Pub Deluxe is just the ticket. A relaxed atmosphere awaits with a £45 menu that includes everything from oysters to Champagne flavoured jelly babies.

The Lawns at Thornton Hall

Up at Matt Worswick’s The Lawns restaurant, they suggest dancing the night away with a tribute to the ultimate crooner Michael Bublé on Saturday 13th, or indulging in a Great Wirral Afternoon Tea for a sweet treat on Sunday.

For sharing…

José Pizarro

When it comes to sharing, Spanish tapas has to be the ultimate choice, and no-one does it better in the capital than José Pizarro. The ability to not fight over the last croquetas or slice of jamon Iberico is surely a sign of true love...

Bentley’s Oyster Bar

Richard Corrigan’s venue doesn’t have to do much more to be romantic (it’s an oyster bar after all), but with a seafood platter (think lobster, langoustines, crab and, of course, oysters) and Champagne sharing special for two on the cards (£160), the package is pretty much perfect.

Duck & Waffle

With a spectacular view of the city, Dan Doherty’s Duck & Waffle is already a pretty special spot, but with a sharing menu for two (£85pp) and two new cocktails from Rich Woods, the wow factor has just been taken up a notch.

Tom’s Kitchen

Tom Aikens’ teams at the Chelsea, Canary Wharf and St Katharine Docks restaurants have gone the whole hog this year, with a menu that includes a whole fish board, cote de boeuf and a Maltesers ice cream sundae to devour as a pair, plus some special cocktails to sip, too.

Hix Restaurants

If sweet things are the only way to woo your loved one, then the sharing desserts at HIX, Hixter and Tramshed are sure to induce sugary palpitations. How could anyone refuse a salted caramel fondue with strawberries, marshmallows and doughnuts?

Gourmet getaways…

Ocean at The Atlantic

If you’re after breathtaking coastal views, Michelin-starred dining and five-star luxury, then The Atlantic Hotel on the beautiful island of Jersey is just the ticket. They’re offering a two-night getaway for £300pp, including two meals at Mark Jordan’s Ocean restaurant, one of which is a special seven-course tasting menu showcasing some of the best produce from the island.

Gidleigh Park

This luxury Devon manor house offers the ultimate mix of contemporary cuisine with country chic. What’s more, two-starred chef Michael Wignall has just taken over the kitchen here, bringing his cutting edge cooking to a new audience. The luxury Valentine’s weekend package includes two night’s accommodation, seven-course and ten-course dinners, and the chance to explore the beautiful Dartmoor scenery (£632.50 per room).

Northcote

A gourmet institution, any stay at Northcote is bound to be special – especially when it includes Champagne in the intimate cocktail bar, a five-course Valentine’s Day menu from chefs Nigel Haworth and Lisa Allen, and a stonking Lancashire breakfast to wake up to in the morning (from £385).

Matt Gillan at The Pass

The exclusive South Lodge Hotel is not only set in glorious grounds in the stunning countryside of West Sussex, but it also features chef Matt Gillan’s intimate, open-kitchen restaurant. The ultimate treat for any foodie, the Valentine’s stay (from £499) includes an eight-course tasting menu where you can literally see the Michelin-quality chefs preparing the dishes in front of your very eyes.

The Vineyard at Stockcross

A spa day and gourmet stay? Don’t mind if we do! Full relaxation and fine dining go hand-in-hand at The Vineyard, where they’re offering a weekend retreat including a five-course dinner and full use of the spa (£699 per room), which was fittingly voted 2015’s Best Spa for a Romantic Retreat.
